A Grocery Giveaway is scheduled to start at noon on Saturday, February 22, at Mount Pleasant Village Hall in the latest collaboration between the Journey Disaster Response Team and the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
Journey DRT’s volunteers will give away bags of groceries during the event, offering some relief to local residents who are facing financial challenges. The event begins at 12:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Village Hall, located at 8811 Campus Drive. The donated groceries will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis until 2:00 p.m. or until supplies run out. Volunteers will be stationed around Village Hall to direct participants and help the line move smoothly.
Journey DRT has a long partnership with the Mount Pleasant Police Department Lakeside COP (Community Oriented Policing) House. The groceries were donated by Amazon.com, Kroger, and Meijer.
This will be the second Grocery Giveaway hosted at Mount Pleasant Village Hall. The first, held in October 2024, gave groceries to about 1,060 people in almost 290 families.
Attendees on February 22 will not have to exit their cars. Journey DRT volunteers will place the groceries either in their trunk or back seats, so make sure there’s room. Groceries will be given for up to two families inside each car. Cars with two families will be asked to show IDs to Journey DRT volunteers to demonstrate their different places of residence.
