REGARDING: OWI Crash vs. School Bus
MPPD CASE # 25-19880
Mount Pleasant, WI – On Monday, September 29th, 2025, at approximately 8:04 a.m., Officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the area of Stuart Road near Slater Avenue for a report of a vehicle versus School Bus crash. Officers responded emergent to the scene. Upon arrival, it was learned that the driver of a 2021 Black Ford Explorer was observed by a multitude of witnesses driving recklessly prior to the crash. The vehicle has crossed over the center line and struck the bus that was driving northbound on Stuart Road with 19 Elementary aged children aboard. The South Shore Fire Department responded and attended to the only injury, the School Bus driver. The driver was transported to Ascension Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Racine County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
The driver of the SUV who struck the bus and her two-year old passenger were also uninjured. Officers during the investigation discovered that the driver was Operating while under the Influence. She was taken into custody. She is a 35-year-old Mount Pleasant resident.
The following charges have been referred to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office for the following offenses:
- Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense causing Injury, also with passenger under 16.
- Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety
- Operating left of Center
This incident remains under investigation by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
