Hit-and-Run Crash Causes Significant Injuries to Electric Bike Operator

On February 25, 2026, at approximately 12:39 AM, the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the intersection of Lathrop Avenue and Taylor Avenue for a hit-and-run crash involving an orange ECells brand electric bicycle and an unknown vehicle.

The operator of the E-bike was traveling southbound on Lathrop Avenue when the collision occurred. The operator sustained significant injuries and was unable to provide detailed information about the suspect vehicle. A passing motorist located the injured victim near the roadway approximately 10 minutes after the crash.

Vehicle debris recovered at the scene indicates the suspect vehicle may be a 1998-2005 GMC Sonoma or GMC Jimmy. The vehicle likely sustained damage to the passenger-side mirror and the passenger-side headlight, and turn signal assembly.
