This year’s real estate tax bills were mailed on Friday, December 6 to Mount Pleasant property owners who have until January 31 to pay the full amount, or to make a first installment payment.
Those taxes support road maintenance, public safety and emergency response services, garbage and recycling collection, parks, and schools, for example. They will finance services provided by the Village of Mount Pleasant, Racine County, Racine Unified School District, and Gateway Technical College.
Residents have several payment options. Those are detailed in an insert included in the mail with the property tax bill, and on the Village’s website.
Residents can choose to pay the full amount by January 31, or to pay in two installments with due dates of January 31 and July 31. The second installment payment due July 31 must be made to the Racine County Treasurer. It cannot be accepted at Mount Pleasant Village Hall.
Payment options include mailing a check to Village Hall at 8811 Campus Drive, paying in person at Village Hall, using secure drop boxes located at Village Hall or two Johnson Bank locations, or paying online at https://ascent.racinecounty.com/LandRecords/. A service charge is included for online payments.
The 2024 real estate tax bills have a combined mill rate of $16.09 per $1,000 of assessed property value. That’s lower than last year’s tax rate.
The Village in spring 2024 mailed property owners notices of the most recent assessed value of their properties. Property owners whose assessed value increased in spring may still see the dollar amount of their real estate tax payment go up, even though the tax rate is lower.
