The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD), in conjunction with local and federal partner agencies, arrested eight people suspected of being involved in a mid-January shooting.

On January 18, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Mount Pleasant Police Department officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Racine Street in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a confrontation had occurred between two separate groups. The dispute escalated, resulting in multiple armed individuals exchanging gunfire. During the incident, one individual sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound to the leg.  He was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.

A subsequent investigation by MPPD identified eight individuals involved in the shooting.  As a result, the Racine County District Attorney’s Office issued criminal charges and investigators obtained arrest warrants for all eight subjects.

On February 25, 2026, MPPD, working with the Racine Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force, and assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Marshals Service, Racine Police Department, Kenosha Police Department, Racine County Sheriff’s Office, and Racine County Sheriff’s Metro Drug Unit executed arrest and/or search warrants at eight locations.  On February 24, 2026, search and arrest warrants were executed at two additional locations. The locations included:

  • 4400 block of Yates Drive, Mount Pleasant, WI
  • 4300 block of 21st Street, Racine, WI
  • 3500 block of Douglas Avenue, Racine, WI
  • 3300 block of Spring Street, Mount Pleasant, WI
  • 3200 block of Kearney Avenue, Mount Pleasant, WI
  • 1800 block of Roosevelt Avenue, Racine, WI
  • 1600 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Racine, WI
  • 1500 block of Owens Street, Racine, WI
  • 700 block of West Lawn Avenue, Racine, WI
  • 400 block of Lake Avenue, Racine, WI

As a result of the operation, all eight individuals identified in the arrest warrants were taken into custody on charges related to their involvement in this incident. Additional charges may be referred to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office pending the continued review of evidence.

During the operation, investigators recovered multiple items, including 23 firearms, and approximately 26 grams of crack cocaine, 245 grams of THC and 310 grams of synthetic THC.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Robert Botsch stated, “This coordinated operation was the result of swift and tireless investigative work and careful planning to ensure the safety of our community and our personnel.  As a result, we have taken those involved into custody and secured evidence that will help move this case forward.”

The Mount Pleasant Police Department and its law enforcement partners remain committed to addressing violent crime and holding individuals accountable for actions that endanger public safety.
