Key Responsibilities

• Emergency Response:  Our patrol officers are the first to respond to emergencies, including accidents, natural emergencies, civic unrest, and criminal incidents. Their quick and effective response ensures the safety and well-being of our community members. 
• Crime Prevention:  The Patrol Unit works to deter criminal activity through routine patrols and a visible presence in the community. Officers conduct residential and business inspections as part of their service calls. They also investigate criminal and non-criminal acts and apprehend criminal offenders when necessary. 
• Community Engagement:  Building trust with the community is a top priority. Our officers regularly interact with residents and attend community events to address concerns and provide support through community-oriented policing. 
• Traffic Enforcement:  Ensuring the safety of our roadways is a function of the Patrol Unit. Officers enforce state and local traffic laws, investigate collisions, and promote safe driving practices to reduce accidents and injuries. They also conduct traffic direction and control when necessary.
• Other Agency Support: The Patrol Unit assists other units within our Police Department by sharing important and relevant information. Mount Pleasant provides police services to neighboring communities when the need arises.
